Learn More About Our History, Culture, and Community Involvement

Ivan Hoy founded Hoy’s Hardware in 1939, in downtown Sweet Home. Ivan was an esteemed member of Sweet Home and served on the fire department. When John Mahler, a former Los Angeles Businessman, moved to Oregon with his family in 1971, he purchased Hoy’s Hardware from Ivan on a handshake deal. In 1973, John purchased two acres at 3041 Main Street and constructed a 6,000 sq. ft. building that has expanded several times and is now more than 22,000 sq. ft. Out of respect to Ivan Hoy, we proudly kept the name Hoy’s.

In 2017, Hoy’s Home Improvement Center was constructed and opened next door. Today, we have two stores to serve our customers. John’s son, Greg is the new proud owner. Ever since Greg was a young boy, hardware and retail have been in his blood. Greg volunteers as a firefighter and city council member in his free time. He prides himself on adding value to the community and to those around him.

We pride ourselves on the following values:
Excellent Customer Service
Constantly Evolving and Improving
Competitive Pricing
Wide Selection
Local Community
Family Oriented

Meet The Owner

Owner, Greg Mahler

Sweet Home Genealogical Society

When Ivan Hoy opened this hardware store in 1939, he provided a new service to our small town that was significant and notable at the time.  His volunteer activities also made a difference in our community.  The following photos are evidence of that; to this day, we continue to live up to that standard every day.

A very special thank you to the Sweet Home Genealogical Society for their ongoing efforts to document our past for future generations.  All photos in this section originated from their book, "Sweet Home A History in Pictures".  Learn more about their current activities and fundraisers on their Facebook page by clicking here.

Community

We are committed to serving our community. Here are some of the proud ways we like to give back.

The owner Greg Mahler has volunteered on the Sweet Home Fire Department since 1987. He also has served on the city council since 2006.

December 2018 was our first annual “Meet Santa” Event, where we invited Santa to come and greet local children and take a free photograph.

We donate to local schools, clubs and the Sweet Home Fire and Police Departments.

We host a toy drive every year to benefit local children in our community.
